And in Case You Missed it
Governor Dean's column on TomPaine.com earlier this week:

Now, our campaign is over, but our cause continues. We've founded a new grassroots organization,  Democracy for America. We're recruiting progressive candidates at every level of government, harnessing the power of the Internet, working with other progressive organizations for our common values and common goals, and raising funds for candidates for whom financial support can be the key to winning.

Here's a direct link to the "Dean Dozen."
  Around the Blogs: Saturday Morning
Who authorized the flights that spirited members of the Bin Laden family out of the U.S. on September 13th, 2001, while all other air traffic was grounded? Atrios notes that, unsurprisingly, the Bushies aren't telling -- and stonewalling the 9/11 commission. Josh Marshall updates us on exactly who Ahmed Chalabi was working for. The Howler shakes his head at the press's obsession with the fantasy of a McCain vice-presidential nomination. And Juan Cole has more on how Bush's diastrous war has united Shiites the world over

Around the Blogs on Wednesday Morning

Josh Marshall deconstructs William Safire's latest piece of garbage; An Atrios reader pinpoints what is most disturbing about Glenn Reynolds; Your Humble Servant reports on a symposium featuring New Yorker editor David Remnick on "The Press since 9/11"; and Hesiod imagines what White Housel counsel Alberto Gonzalez might be thinking right now.

Where We Stand on the Blog

I am hopefully going to be posting with more regularity on the blog in order to help Eugene in keeping together the vibrant community that coalesced around Truth and Hope this winter. I will be linking to stories on the premier progressive blogs and websites and also, on occasion, remarking on events myself (again, hopefully, as time permits).

To begin with, however, I wanted to reiterate Truth and Hope's central goal of helping to elect progressive candidates at all levels of government. There are various efforts across the internet and blogosphere that provide a good start in this effort:

First, as many of you know, there are the "Dean Dozen" candidates identified for support by Democracy for America. One of my personal favorites on this list is Richard Morrison who has the guts to take on one of the most odious men in Washington, Tom Delay.

Kos has been mulling over launching a fundraising drive for specific candidates (also see here).

Philly-based blogger Atrios has been plugging Pennsylvania Democratic Senatorial candidate Joe Hoeffel, whose own blog is here. (Gov. Dean himself will be headlining a Hoeffel fundraising event this Sunday; those of you in southeastern PA might be interested in looking into attending.)

If you would rather give to an organization, Wellstone Action helps train future progressive candidates at "Camp Wellstone."

Please tell us your suggestions!

[Dear T&H folks, many apologies for not updating the blog more often: here is the latest email from Eugene which many of you have already gotten -- Stuart]

Turman for Congress/DeanFest/T&H DVD's

If you are not already familiar with him, I would like to introduce Christopher Turman who is running for the Democratic nomination in West Virginia's 2nd congressional district on May 11 to unseat Republican incumbent Shelly Capito.  His district is 54% registered Democrat & 34% registered Republican.  To quote a refrain that we are too painfully familiar with...he is the candidate that can win.  To date he has raised only 20k less than the incumbent & 34k more in individual contributions, and this since only March 1.  His two opponents for the Democratic nomination had raised less than $1,000 as of the March 31 filings, but have the all too important advantage of name recognition.  Governor Dean has expressed his support of Christopher & this is an opportunity to flex our muscle & support a progressive candidate to take back the country!  He has commercials filmed & ready for airing.  Please visit his website at www.TurmanForCongress.com, and help take this seat back from the Republicans...remember it is 12-2-1 to take back the country from the far right.

The planning for DeanFest is coming along well.  Here is the list of speakers & performers as of now:

Speakers:

Howard Dean

Eugene Hedlund

Liz Herbert - Rapid Response

Cathy Bao Bean - Philosopher, Writer

Charlie Grapski - Political Activist

Performers:

Cecilia St. King

The Burn Sisters

Zo Tobi

Stephan Smith

David Teller

Marshall Stern

Anthony D'Amato

Laramie Crocker

Rebecca Padula

Please visit http://www.myvoteismyvoice.com/html/contribute.html to sign up for their mailing list & help us meet the goal of raising $25,000 to pay for the upfront costs of putting such an event on.

Lastly, I have been asked often to produce a CD or DVD with our media as a fundraiser, so here it is.  I have a DVD with all of the radio spots we aired, as well as the Vermont television spot.  Things have been moving slower, without the benefit of funds for producing new media quickly, and the attorney's costs eating at what we had saved for such production, so I would like to send out a DVD for a contribution of $50 - but you have all been such an incredible help, and we would not have accomplished anything without it, so frankly I will send a DVD to anyone who asks, if you can contribute or not as a thank you.  If you can help out, please do so at out blog http://www.truthandhope.blogspot.com by clicking on the general fund challenge.

Thank you again for still being there.  Speaking for myself, I know that my energy was depleted, after Dean officially dropped out, but I can tune in to the news at any moment & find innumerable reasons to carry on the necessary fight to get Bush out of the Whitehouse & elect progressives to save our country from the far right.

Thank you for all that you do,

Very Important Please Read: For those unaware, we cannot use terms like "Vote for ..." or "Do not Vote for..." as we are a 527. Other rules are that all contributions must come from individuals. I cannot accept any monies from corporations or organizations. I feel we are all together in that we will do whatever we can to get progressive candidates elected, as long as it does not violate Federal Election Guidelines.

A special thanks to Joanie Benoit for starting this momentum in Washington, and for her team that put these recordings together. In early February, Joanie emailed me, having raised some funds and secured time to record an ad. 2 days later we had raised over $25,000 via blog posts and word of mouth, and we then tried to run ads in every state caucus or primary that came up. This is an incredible example of what can be done when people with a common vision each do their part, no matter what that may be. We are making history. Most 527's or PAC's I am aware of are funded by large contributions, just to circumvent the contribution limits. We are a independent grassroots organization inspired by & supporting the greatest US grassroots movement in memory.

Thank you all for your help,
